Growing out of the STRS Senior Scout Troop, Frank Henderson boldly established the District's first Venture Scout Unit, with the emphasis on AD-VENTURE.
Entwining the traditional activities of Scouting into a more informal approach suited to the 'modern age' - which the forward thinkers of the movement had recognised by creating the Venture Scout section - Frank laid the solid foundation of what was to become a traditional and valuable fixture in the make up of both Sir Thomas Rich's School and the Gloucester District Scout Movement.
Many boys (and later some girls!) from the school would develop their life skills, character and initiative with the 44th, gaining many rewarding experiences and valued friendships in the process. And the key catalyst in the process would be Frank Henderson - their Venture Scout Leader.
