A New Cycle of Life Starts for the 44th

As the unit said farewell to 12 of its senior and active members during the latter half of the previous school year, its numbers had dramatically fallen for the start of this academic year. Nevertheless the VSL had plans to expand the 44th's remit, with the younger members quickly filling the gaps left by their illustrious predecessors and prospective 44th-ers eager to join what has become an integral and vital part of the life at Tommy Rich's school.

We also congratulate Bill Spear on his appointment as AVSL to the unit.

One interesting development has been the appointment of Ian Simmons as Editor of the unit magazine Venture 44.  Until now this was one of the many tasks done by the VSL himself.  Here is the Ian's first offering ...

Venture 44 Edition 13  (published December 1973, Editor: Ian Simmons) - Editorial, The Matterhorn (Steve Chalkley), A Look Back at the Summer 1973 Expedition to Scotland (John Barnes), Half Term Camp (John Price), VSL's Notes, Personally Speaking (Andy Messam)
