Queen's Scout Awards for Seven Senior Members

Congratulations to the following on their outstanding achievement in becoming Queen's Scouts, the highest award in Scouting:

Rich Kerswell, Brian Herbert, Yosh Cowmeadow, Dave Wilson, Paddy Smith, Jon Wright, & Simon Hawkins.

They have been stalwart members of the 44th over the previous 3-4 years, making valuable contributions to the life and success of the unit.  We wish them, together with our other leavers, all the best for the future.  We look forward to hearing from them via our 'From All Points' pages in the magazine and catching up with them all at our reunion evenings.

Initial thoughts about this year's summer trip to Iceland somehow evolved towards a more southerly direction as we looked forward to heading off to sunny Spain - not the popular beaches of the Mediterranean but the northern Costa Verde coastline and inland the rugged heights of the Picos de Europa.

This year also saw the 50th Edition of the unit's magazine 'Venture44' published.  Within its pages some absorbing articles from previous members of the 44th.

Venture 44 Edition 50  (published May 1984,  Editor: Yosha Cowmeadow) - 50 Not Out, Editorial (Yosh Cowmeadow), From Rich's to Rags (Rob Dalton), The Inca Trail (Row Lloyd), Leicester We Forget (Mark Simmonds), Sports Report, Venture Scout Uniform (DLB)

Also belatedly hitting the presses, Edition 49 dedicated to the 1983 Summer Expedition to Norway;  just in time for a good Christmas read!

Venture 44 Edition 49  (published December 1983,  Editor: Yosh Cowmeadow, Graphics: Dave Seed, Photos: Bri Symcox & FH) - Norway 83 Summer Expedition Special

Venture 44 Edition 48  (published October 1983,  Editor: Yosha Cowmeadow) - Comment (Yosh Cowmeadow), North Wales One (Graham Dalby), North Wales Two (Rob Halford), Fourteen (Bri Symcox), From All Points, Just Another Cynic (Mark Evans), Puzzle Page (Rich Kerswell)
