For the second year running we have taken part in an exchange project run by Herr Norbert Weitz of the Pius Gymnasium in Aachen. Schools from Leipzig, Liberec, Saint Brieuc and Versailles were also taking part in this Project, which represents a feat of mammoth coordination and effort on the part of Herr Weitz, the project director. Eight of our sixth form students were found work placements in Aachen - newpaper offices, radio studios, lawyer's office, kindergarten, music and book stores, municipal council offices for the environment and architect's studio - and lived with German families during their stay.
Accompanied by Mr Brown and his wife, a rewarding and enjoyable experience was had by all. The language learning opportunities such an exchange affords are invaluable. Even Mr Brown thoroughly enjoyed the challenge of reviving his knowledge of German, originally acquired 'some time ago' whilst in the sixth form here at Rich's (courtesy Tim Saluveer and Eric Smith).
Sixth Former Paul Horn recently had one of his poems earn him a runner-up prize in the University of Central England Schools' Poetry Competition. The theme of the poem had to elate to 'Significant Events'. Our photo shows Paul receiving his certificate and prize from Andrew Motion, the Poet Laureate.
Ben Griffiths (Yr8), Michael Clapton (Yr9), Michael Skidmore (Yr9) & Tom Burlinson (Yr9) represented the school in the regional 'Top Schools' U14 Badminton Competition held at Stroud Leisure Centre.
Given that the strength of some of the opposing teams included representative honours and internationals, the four Rich's boys did exceptionally well to obtain a third place, even beating a school whose No. 1 player is a current England international.
Congratulations and well done to the four for their stirling efforts!
On Saturday the school was represented in the Bazuka National Relay Swimming Championships held at Crawley in Sussex. Both teams swam well but were unable to qualify from their heats.
The Intermediates, who were competing against boys 1 year older, improved their qualifying time by 1.85 secs and the Juniors improved theirs by 3.68secs. Despite not reaching the final, the teams are to be well congratulated for their efforts to reach the last 12 of a national competition. Well done!
Intermediate Team - Thomas White, Jack Mullins, John Gaylard, William Middleton.
Junior Team - Robert Payne, Thomas Burlinson, Christopher Turner, James Broady.
Things have hotted up and the action groups are mobilised. Are we going to stand by and let the power moguls of the county council have their wicked way and destroy Gloucester's prime grammar schools? Act now - follow the links below to find out more ....

- Remind, encourage parents, relations, friends, etc to make their views known
- Contact the Save Our Schools Campaign, e-mail: [email protected]

So don't waste time - let the council know how you feel about their plans to disrupt and destroy your education.
