Dexter Bradley collects the Cock House Trophy from Will Rudge of Gloucestershire County Cricket Club, our Guest of Honour at Final Asembly.
Winner of the Centurion Cup - Andrew Downes for his powerful 112 against Rendcomb.
In summing up the very full and successful year at Rich's, Headmaster Mr Kellie wrote in the School's July Newsletter -
'Our end of Year has coincided with the County Council's judgement on Gloucester's secondary schools. At time of writing the cabinet's decision has not been announced but the report put to them recommends, among other proposals, reducing entry to the four Grammar Schools by a total of four forms. This seems to be a 'political fix' - a nod to the anti-selection lobby, whilst retaining the Grammar Schools, as recognition of the pro-selection campaigners.
I am pleased that Sir Thomas Rich's is safe. I am also pleased that an end is in sight to this long, troubled and unsettling review. My aim will be to ensure that any reduction in our admission causes minimum disruption to parents who apply and negligible change to our school culture and ethos. The date set for change by the review's Project Board is september 2006: I suspect that this is ambitious and also developments in local and national Government may supercede the review's suggestions.
I wish pupils, parents and staff a relaxing and enjoyable summer holiday.'
We bid fond farewells to 2 members of staff at the end of term:
Mr M Buttler who joined us in 1999 and became Head of Economics & Business Studies. He has decided to leave teaching. We wish him good fortune in his new ventures. |
Mr G Barrington who has taught History at Tommies for 30 years. He has seen many changes in his time and now looks forward to his early retirement. We wish Geoff the very best. |
This year was one of Rich's most successful in the Rotary City Challenges. With a team representing Rich's in three out of four of the finals, victories over Churchdown (U12), Crypt (U13) & Beaufort (U14) saw our boys bringing home all three trophies, in spite of rain causing the replaying of two of the finals when our teams were well ahead.
The hat-trick of wins was also complemented by two hat-tricks by Rich's boys. First, Harry Young for the U12, then Callum Broady for the U14 side.
Many thanks to the Rotary for sponsoring and organising this event - their support of local school cricket is very much appreciated!
Despite the warm blustery conditions there were some fine performances even though no records were broken. Once again the evening was very successful due to the effort and commitment of all the athletes who took part.
Outstanding performances:
Oliver Johnson (7S) won both the 100m and 200m and his 200m time was just 0.02sec outside the record
Ben Ruxton (8T) won the 200m and Triple Jump events
Richard Farrow (8B) ran the fastest 800m time on the night of 2min 25.8sec
Will Knowlman (10B) won both the Shot & Javelin
Matthew Patching (10T) won both the High Jump & Discus
The Walter Rangeley Cup for Best Sprinter on Evening was presented to Robert tucker (10T) for winning the 100m with a PB of 11.6sec
After all the effort and exertion the final positions were:
Position | House | Points |
1st | Southgate | 289 |
2nd | Northgate | 263½ |
3rd | Westgate | 248 |
4th | Eastgate | 223½ |
