lan Kellie was appointed Second Deputy Head by Gordon Heap in 1988. He became Headteacher on the departure of Tony Jarvis in 1994. In summary, lan gave twenty-five years of service to the school, nineteen of them as Headteacher. Under his leadership the school got better and better: examination results improved; extra-curricular life broadened and standards rose; there was a sharper focus on pastoral care. He oversaw a host of capital projects - sports hall, languages centre, music rooms, D&T refurbishment with new design suite, new food tech building, revamped dining hall - all of which greatly enhanced the provision for pupils. As a parting shot, he even managed to arrange a grant of £2million for the building of a long awaited Learning Resource Centre and Sixth Form centre. lt was no great surprise, that Ofsted Inspectors judged the school "outstanding". Rich's was one of the first to become a Beacon School, followed by specialist status as a languages and then science college. lan also guided the school in becoming an Academy, a pivotal moment in Rich's history, which he felt an essential step towards a more independent, secure, successful future. (For a full appreciation of Ian Kellie see The Richian magazine 2012-2013)
